With over 15 years of London-based legal experience, I began my career in criminal defence work before moving into commercial litigation, ultimately specialising in business crime, investigations and contentious regulation.
I have practised at the self-employed Bar but spent the majority of my practice employed by leading international legal firms and within global investment banks, representing high-profile international corporate institutions in leading litigation and contentious regulatory investigations.
My diverse experiences allowed me to observe the profound impact that pressure, overwhelm and trauma can have on individuals at all levels, both personally and professionally.
My practice now focuses on trauma informed support. I embed within legal teams to support clients navigating distressing proceedings and material, helping to shape constructive dialogue between lawyer and client, and enabling clients and witnesses to access informed decision making and deliver their best evidence.
My legal work
My experience working with trauma & distress
My career started in acute trauma settings, working with incarcerated individuals in the UK and Jamaica. This deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection and the neuro-biological impact of trauma. It also led me to co-found a project (now charity) delivering sports-based mentoring within the criminal justice system. My own experiences of trauma, and living alongside trauma-affected rescue animals, has further shaped my understanding of whole-system trauma responses and the critical role of non-verbal cues.
I’ve seen firsthand the crucial role that empathy and an understanding of trauma play in upholding the integrity of our legal system. The sum of my experiences, and a realisation that this type of support is not readily available within the legal world, inspired me to develop bespoke training and support for the legal sector and those navigating legal processes.
My approach integrates somatic coaching, neuroscience and compassionate leadership to facilitate meaningful change for individuals and organisations alike.
My experience includes:
Providing trauma-informed client and witness support before, during and after proceedings - I’ve been engaged by multiple leading law firms and global organisations, including in respect of headline-hitting litigation involving traumatic evidence.
Designing and developing leading trauma-informed training to legal and investigatory teams - together, Camilla and I have trained leading industry bodies, firms and chambers, as well as providing training in partnership with The Bar Council and The Law Society of Scotland
Conducting sensitive workplace investigations - I have led investigations and advised teams on trauma-informed approaches that reduce risk, minimise conflict and support fair, human centred processes.
Addressing domestic abuse in corporate settings - I have extensive experience supporting those affected by domestic abuse, including developing education tools and safeguarding policies for leading international law firms.
Providing one-to-one support for those navigating complex trauma in personal and professional contexts - my private coaching practice welcomes individuals from all sectors. I’ve worked within Media & Tv, sport, social work, animal behaviour and education. Click here to find out more.
